What is Club USCA?

Word Art.png
Muirlands Social Justice Club

The US in our name stands for United Students, we chose this name for our club because as students of Muirlands Middle School we are  united as one.  We come together to create this amazing community of people of different races, genders, religions, sexualities, and backgrounds. In our daily lives, we see, experience, or hear about injustice both on and off campus. In our club, we discuss these injustices and share student work pertaining to issues that are important to them.

The CA in our name stands for the many different causes we stand for,

ranging from gender equality and racism to climate change and anti-bullying. The "umbrella" meaning of "CA" is Community Awareness, but currently, it stands for Climate Action, aligned with our current project.

Muirlands Social Justice Club
Current Project

Billions of bottle caps are used every day, and they end up in the ocean, in streets, or in landfills, even if put in the recycling bin. Bottlecaps are made out of hard, difficult-to-recycle plastic, but they can still be reused and repurposed. Our current project involves reducing the number of bottlecaps that go into landfills by collecting all the bottlecaps discarded by our school and transforming them into a social-justice-related mural. Through this project, our school can prevent many bottlecaps from entering the ocean and landfills, all while creating a beautiful mural, that communicates a climate action message, for all to enjoy.

Changes due to Covid-19

During this pandemic, we cannot meet in person to work on our bottle cap mural. However, we have started a climate  awareness website, https://sites.google.com/view/
climate-awareness-page-usca, which informs about current climate change facts, programs for saving endangered species, what you can do to reduce climate change, and more!
